Tucked away in the heights of Les Avirons, Le Jardin des Tortues is a calm and educational stop, especially suited for families or nature-minded visitors. This private space cares for a variety of land tortoises, mostly from Madagascar, and offers close-up views of these slow-moving residents in a peaceful, tree-shaded garden.
The enclosures are modest but well-kept, and the staff are happy to explain how the tortoises are fed, protected, and bred in captivity. You’ll learn how long they live, what they eat, and how they react to seasonal changes. There's also a small aviary and a few other reptiles on site. It's not a zoo or a major attraction. It's more of a quiet pause that offers something thoughtful, especially if you’re traveling with children.
👉 Sometimes you're offered the chance to help with feeding, and the younger tortoises are surprisingly quick when food is involved.
