For a thousand years the Westminster and Whitehall area of London has been the heart of England’s royalty, government and religion. This walk takes you to some of the British capital’s most important landmarks including royal palaces, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and a royal park. Along the way historian Peter Stone explains the significance and history of each location.

The walk should take about 2 hours at a moderate pace, although you may wish to stop longer at certain locations. There are various cafes along the route for refreshments. These include the Central Methodist Hall (opposite Westminster Abbey) and the St. James’s Park Café. There are toilets in the subway connected to Westminster Underground station and in St. James’s Park.

Some of the important buildings along the way are open to the public at certain times of day and times of the year, including Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey.
