Wolfsklamm: The Gorge of the Wild Water

Located in the village of Stans, this is one of the most beautiful gorges in the Alps. With over 350 wooden steps and bridges built directly into the rock, you’ll walk above crashing waterfalls and turquoise pools of water.

Javi’s Insider Tips:

The Autumn Spectacle: If you visit in autumn, this place is non-negotiable. The contrast between the bright turquoise water and the intense orange and gold leaves of the forest is mind-blowing. It is easily one of the most photogenic spots in Austria during the fall.

The Entrance Fee: Please note that there is a small entrance fee (approx. €5.00 - €6.00) to maintain the wooden structures. It is worth every cent to ensure the safety of the bridges and stairs.

Choosing Your Route:

The Short Route: You can simply hike through the gorge (about 1 hour) and once you reach the top, turn around and come back. It’s a great way to experience the water without a long day of hiking.

The Full Loop (St. Georgenberg): Once you finish the gorge, I highly recommend continuing the trail up to the Monastery of St. Georgenberg. It’s a stunning pilgrimage church built on a massive rock. To get there, you’ll cross a unique wooden covered bridge. From the monastery, you can hike back down via a forest path to complete the loop.

Nature at its Best: The sound of the water is incredibly powerful. Expect to get a little bit of "mountain mist" on your face as you pass the larger waterfalls!

Access & Logistics:

Public Transport: Take the S-Bahn (S1) train from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof to the station "Stans". From the station, it’s a well-signed 15-minute walk to the entrance of the gorge.

Innsbruck Card: While the train to Stans is covered, please check if the specific entrance to the gorge is included at the time of your visit, as it is a private association (usually it is not included, so keep some cash or your card ready).

Gear: The steps can be slippery due to the humidity of the waterfalls. Wear shoes with good grip!
