Calm, pristine water and an idyllic backdrop of the Adirondack Mountains make this lake one of the best things to do in Lake Placid.

Mirror Lake is the focal point of the town of Lake Placid. You can't miss it! Here are a few ways you can enjoy Mirror Lake

1. Get out on the water and paddle on Mirror Lake. You can rent all the gear you need from Downstairs Boat Rental. It's right in downtown and has kayaks, canoes, aqua bikes, boats, and stand up paddle boards to rent for about $30/hour.

2. Walk the scenic 2.7 mile loop around the lake. It's a super easy, paved walk that takes less than an hour to complete. Keep an eye out for the "Carry Path". It's a small path that's used to transport canoes and kayaks to Mirror Lake. Follow the path down to Mirror Lake for some breathtaking views.

3. Lounge on the Lake Placid Public Beach, which is located on the south shore of Mirror Lake. The beach is sandy and the shoreline is shallow and crystal clear - perfect for cooling off on a hot day. There's an also a pier and a launch site for canoes or kayaks if you want to explore the lake.

  1. Go ice skating! While this activity is highly weather dependent, Mirror Lake is the perfect place to try wild skating - and it's free! As long as the ice is solid enough, you can lace up your skates and head out onto the ice. If you need skate rentals, you can pick them up at Locker Room 5 in downtown Lake Placid for about $15.
