The winter months between November and February are the best times to see big wave surfing on the North Shore. The massive waves can sometimes swell up to thirty feet or more—dangerous even for experienced surfers—so always check out the warning signs.

During that time, the South is very small so you might need to go to the West side. Just make sure you're taking on the appropriate size wave. Waikiki is always a great spot where there are lots of place to rent boards right on the beach.
