Tervaleppälehto in Kotka is a small but special protected alder grove that I visit almost every time I am in the region. It is not a place for long hikes or crowds, but rather for a quiet pause inside old-growth forest.

The narrow trails lead through dense alder trees and can be muddy or icy depending on the season, so sturdy shoes are essential.

Several bird feeder areas make this a great location for wildlife spotting and photography. Early morning visits are especially rewarding, with red squirrels, small birds, owls, and occasionally raccoon dogs moving through the forest. Treat the area gently—stay on the paths, keep dogs on a leash, and respect the protected habitat.
