Directions

Katariinanlaakson conservation area in Turku is a compact, protected valley that works perfectly for a short and peaceful nature walk close to the city. The trails wind through mixed and partly old-growth forest, with small wetlands adding variety to the landscape. Plan for a 30–90 minute visit rather than a long hike, and wear sturdy shoes, as paths can be uneven or muddy after rain.

The area offers several good opportunities for wildlife photography. Squirrels, yellow-necked mice, and woodpeckers are common, especially if you move slowly and visit during the early hours of the day. Seasonal changes shape the experience, with fresh greens and bird activity in spring and warm colors in autumn, while winter brings quiet, icy paths.
