The ferry runs daily dependent on the weather about every 1.5 hours. You can purchase your tickets ahead of time or walk into the office when you arrive. You can bring your car on the ferry if you want but it certainly is not necessary.

Make sure to double check your arrival and departure ports before you purchase, they are not exchangeable.

The ferry is about 2 hours from Reykjavik, make sure to show up 15-30 minutes before departure.

I only recommend going to the Westmann Islands April/May - early November

Landeyjajöfn is the mainland Iceland Vestmannaeyjar is the Westmann Islands Do not take the ferry if it from Þorlákshöfn (this is the 3 hour ferry and you should just change your travel plans if this happens. This only happens in the winter and extremely bad weather.
