Get ready for an unforgettable journey back in time at Mistaken Point, a UNESCO World Heritage site. To protect the incredible 565-million-year-old fossils, you'll need to join a guided tour, which you should book well in advance. The adventure begins at the Edge of Avalon Interpretive Centre, followed by a 30-minute drive in your own car to the trailhead. From there, it's a moderately challenging 6km round-trip hike along the stunning, rugged coastline, taking about 45 minutes each way. Once you arrive, you'll slip on special booties and walk directly on the ancient seafloor, getting up close with some of the earliest complex life forms on Earth.
