Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is a beautiful shrine located in Nagaokakyo City, Kyoto Prefecture. Dedicated to scholar, poet, and politician Sugawara-no Michizane of the Heian era, it is known locally as "Mikaeri-tenjin", or “the shrine that's 'hard-to-leave'.” In April, visitors can enjoy a lush azalea tunnel filled with dark red flowers as they make their way to the main shrine hall. All year round there are plenty of activities and sights to explore, ranging from beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring, lotus flowers in the summer, to Autumn foliage light-up events illuminating the Japanese garden, Kinkei-en. Visitors can even take a break over at Kinsuitei restaurant to enjoy fresh local cuisine while taking in the breathtaking sights. So set off on your adventure to Nagaoka Tenmangu for some sightseeing and truly experience the beauty of Kyoto!
