Laupāhoehoe, a small town in Hawaii, is known for its stunning lava tip and tragic history. Back in 1946, a devastating tsunami hit the island, claiming the lives of many residents, including schoolchildren and teachers. Today, a memorial stands as a reminder of the community's resilience in the face of natural disasters.
ProTIP:
Few people know that Laupāhoehoe beach park is a great place for snorkeling! Here you might find octopus, sea turtles, fish balls, lots of corals and more! By far is my favorite place in the east side of the island.
The entrance to the snorkeling spot is by the boat ramp. Make sure the ocean is not too rough and never dive alone. Depending on the day currents may be strong.
ProTIP 2:
The best time to go is between 6am and 11am, where you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise and face low currents as the wind is usually very low early in the morning. High possibility of seeing humpback whales on the whale season - November till April.
