park

This park is full of green, grassy hills and cute little sheep! Located at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula in Auckland, it covers 500 hectares and offers stunning coastal views, sandy beaches, and walking trails for you to explore.

The park is also home to the Shakespear Open Sanctuary, where efforts are made to protect native wildlife, including kiwi birds. The kiwis were only recently introduced to the park, and although I didn’t have any luck spotting one, I really hope you do!
What you choose to do on your visit is totally up to you, but I recommend the Shakespear Heritage and Tiritiri Tracks Loop. It’s an 8km loop that took me about 2 hours to complete. The track is super diverse, taking you through bush, mangroves, beaches, and farmland, allowing you to experience the best of the park. It’s a moderate walk, so it’s a nice challenge without being too intense. If that feels like too big of a walk, don’t worry, there are lots of shorter trails that you can merge together and adjust to create the perfect walk for you. It’s a great park to escape the city and enjoy nature.
