I tackled this hike at the end of the day, and it was the perfect way to wrap up a day exploring Whangarei Heads! Mount Manaia is a popular track around here, and as you gaze up at the quirky rock formations crowning the peak, it practically calls you to climb. This trail is a nice 3.75 km, making it ideal for a sunrise or sunset adventure if you're up for it. It took me about an hour and 20 minutes round trip, and I made it back to my van just as darkness fell (didn’t even need a torch! I was zooming down though, haha). There are quite a few steps, but that’s all part of the NZ hiking charm! Every single step is worth it for those views.
