Mochlos is a traditional village located 48 km east of Agios Nikolaos and 35 km west of Sitia. Positioned just 150 meters opposite the islet of St. Nicholas, which is home to a significant archaeological site and the chapel of the same name, Mochlos is a destination that perfectly blends history and nature. The village has maintained its traditional Cretan charm. The villagers, most of whom come from the nearby village of Sfaka, are incredibly friendly, and you’ll feel at home from the moment you arrive.

Along the coastal road, there are a few tavernas and cafes where you can enjoy fresh seafood and drinks. These establishments are popular even among Greek celebrities.

In front of the village, you’ll find the small sandy beach of Mochlos, with a rocky seabed. While the beach has basic amenities, it is still not fully organized. Heading east, you’ll come across the second bay of the village, which is smaller and rockier.

For those seeking more seclusion, the sandy beach of Limenaria, located 400 meters west of Mochlos, offers a more isolated retreat. This beach is protected from the waves by the local harbor. In 1986, archaeologists uncovered a post-Minoan cemetery at Limenaria, where they discovered several unlooted carved tombs. Among the findings were over 60 decorated vases and a Minoan seal depicting a deer.
