This is such a charming spot where you can immerse yourself in the world of handmade dolls. I know it might not sound exciting, but it’s basically a snapshot of countryside life in traditional Japan. If you’re into that kind of thing - or love Ghibli vibes - you are going to enjoy it.

The museum is pretty small, and you could technically go through it in five minutes. But the pieces are so detailed and full of character that rushing through would honestly feel like a waste. Founded by self-taught doll maker Mayumi Takahashi, the museum showcases her unique creations inspired by the old men and women of Iiyama’s snow country.

With three galleries featuring about 100 dolls, a cozy café serving tasty sweets, and a shop with some fun goods, it’s a great little stop for anyone who loves handmade crafts or a touch of nostalgia.

*Please note that they do not allow photos or videos, except for one small piece near the entrance, to the right of the ticket counter.
