The Royal Albatross Centre on the Otago Peninsula is the best place to see these huge seabirds up close. The centre runs guided tours during the nesting season, which is when you can spot adults caring for their chicks in the nest. The tours give you a chance to learn about the birds’ habits, their incredible wingspan, and the conservation work being done to protect them. Even if you’re not on a tour, the viewing areas give good spots to watch the albatross. Make sure you bring binoculars and your camera with you.
