Flateyri is a small Icelandic town in the Westfjords offering a unique mix of history and culture. Located within the 2km deep fjord, Önundarfjördur, it is known for its stunning natural beauty, quirky museums (including the Nonsense Museum) and relic ruins of the old whaling station. With a population of only 267 people, Flateyri is family-friendly and was historically a bustling trading town in 1792. Tourists can explore the area via car or join one of the many popular tours on offer. The town is slowly but surely coming back to life after a devastating avalanche in 1995, and fishermen, tourists, and immigrants now all call Flateyri home.
