Wharariki Beach is one of those places that feels wild and untouched, especially if you time it right. Go around low tide so you can walk across the sand, explore the natural blue pools, and get closer to the famous Archway Islands, at high tide, access is limited and you’ll miss half the magic. The walk from the car park takes about 20 minutes each way on an easy track, and you’ll want to allow 1–1.5 hours here to wander properly. Bring a windproof layer, it’s almost always breezy. Sunset is unreal here, with golden light hitting the arches and long shadows across the beach, but check tide times before committing. Expect raw coastal scenery, seals in the distance, big skies, and a place that feels very different from the rest of New Zealand.
