What to do there

The castle has been converted into a museum showcasing its rich history dating back to the 12th century. You can explore many rooms of the castle including the Great Halls, the Duke’s Chambers, and the underground vaults.

After your visit, we suggest either a boat ride or strolling along the banks of Lake Geneva to enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains.

Tip: The best photospot with the castle is a short walk north to a small little beach. Here you can stand on the rocky jetty and get both the castle and mountains in your picture. See on Google Maps.

For children

Children get a free "Drako's Tour" map of the castle, that makes the tour more fun by searching for special things in each room. Best for kids that can read, about ages 6-10. The guide comes in English, French, German and Chinese.

How to get there

The castle is located just south of Montreux on the lakeshore. Av. de Chillon 23, 1820 Montreux.

By car: There is metered parking along the street just south of the castle entrance.

By bus: From Montreux, short ride to Veytaux, château de Chillon.

By boat: The Lake Geneva boat also drops directly at the castle, Château-de-Chillon stop.

Guided tours

Your ticket includes a brochure that shows a suggested route through the castle with some helpful info about each area.

But we suggest getting the audio guide (extra fee), which makes it easier to enjoy the experience instead of continually looking down at the brochure. They also have a mobile app, that includes videos (mobile data connection required).

They offer guided tours (some in medieval costume!), but only for groups.
