Lecht Mine, located on the Glenlivet estate is a a former iron and manganese mine.
The mine is located on the road between Tomintoul and the Lecht Ski Centre.

There is a small carpark just as you come off the main road and you will see the mine and walkway clearly. There is a map of the local area too. Use the footbridge to cross the small river stream.
The walk to the mine is no longer than 30 minutes and for the most part it is relatively flat. If you so desire there are also other walking routes you can follow.

I have included this mine as the surrounding landscapes are outstanding and you will find real peace and quiet here. The Mine was one a sight for iron and manganese in the 1730's and at the time the ore was extracted and carried on pack horse along the river. Initially the need for manganese was to colour and paint the bottom of ships.

Nowadays, the mine has been redeveloped and there are some information boards inside for you to read.
