Svartifoss, also known as the Black Falls, is a popular waterfall in Iceland surrounded by stunning hexagonal basalt columns that give it a unique and mystical vibe.

𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Svartifoss is situated in Skaftafell, a region within Vatnajökull National Park known for its dramatic landscapes and glacier views

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: you can park at the Skaftafell visitor center. The parking is not free.

𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 2 miles roundtrip

𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆: you will need at least 3 hours taking into consideration the hiking time and the time spent at the waterfall

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻: 460 feet

𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆: easy to moderate. On your way to the waterfall, the hike is mostly uphill.

𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:

  • make sure to wear proper shoes

  • if you want to avoid the crowds go to the waterfall in the morning

  • drones are not allowed
