The "Charles Kuonen" suspension bridge is third longest hanging pedestrian bridge in the world. It's more commonly known as the "Europaweg Skywalk", as it is part of the 2-day "Europaweg" trail between Grächen and Zermatt.
Bridge: 494m bridge, 85m high, 65cm wide
It was built in 2017, replacing the short-lived "Europa" bridge that was built in 2010 and destroyed just two months later by a rockslide. Today's bridge is very stable and safe, a testament to Swiss engineering.
How to get there
For a day hike, you can do a loop hike from Randa, about 20 min train ride from Zermatt. No cable car required. For extra credit, you can hike about 800m above the bridge to visit the Europa mountain hut for lunch. See trail map with hut detour.
Trail: moderate • 3h • 7 km loop • 680 m up & down • see trail map
When to go: The bridge is usually option May to October, depending on snow conditions. Check bridge status.
This area is particularly beautiful in October when the golden larches turn bright yellow.
