Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan is a beautiful and mysterious temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat province of Southern Thailand. It is home to one of the most important relics of Theravada Buddhism: a tooth of Gautama Buddha, believed to reside inside the main stupa. The temple complex contains amazing artwork, sculptures and temples surrounded by walls and featuring the bell-shaped Phra Boromathat Chedi stupa spire that reaches up to 78 meters. An annual festival takes place at the temple during Magha Puja on the full moon day of February, drawing believers from all over the country to take part in a procession to wrap the stupa in robes. Visitors can explore different parts of this ancient site including the museum, Ubosot, Wihan Luang, Bodhi Tree enclosure and many other stunning shrines. This is truly a must see destination and an exciting chance to journey into the spiritual heart of Buddhism.
