The Allalin Glacier is a 6 km long glacier located in Saas Fee, near the 4010 m tall Allalinhorn in Switzerland. It's not to be confused with the Fee Glacier, which is on the other side of the Allalinhorn. The glacier is surrounded by majestic peaks like the Allalinhorn, Rimpfischhorn, and Strahlhorn. It's pretty cool to see how this icy wonder has been shaping the landscape for centuries. Just remember, glaciers are constantly changing and sadly melting, so make sure to check it out while you still can!

This is hands down one of my favourite hike I have ever done therefore if you can check it out before the glaciers are too fragile to cross them.

Fun fact: You will be hiking on 3 glaciers ( 1 is already in a very bad shape, sadly we can't call it glacier anymore just a patch of ice and snow) without needed crampons, harness or rope.

HIKE DETAILS:

Start in Saas Fee, taking the cable car up all the way to Felskinn at 2988 meter. The hike is a blue white trail. From the cable car station you need to follow the sign towards Brittania hut. Here you start crossing one glacier already but this part of hike is fairly easy and flat.

You will find beautiful glacier lakes along the way and 4000 m tall mountains in the distance. A bit before Brittania hut you will reach the glacier that has melted extremely bad, but you will still need to cross it.

The glacier is marked with poles and you need to follow them in order to get thru safe. There are no crevasses or cracks, still make sure you follow the poles. Once you reach Brittania hut take a breather and enjoy the view. If you look down you will see 2 huge glaciers, Allalin glacier and Hohlaub glacier. So, you will need to cross them both. Same method, the glacier is marked with poles that's you need to follow.

After crossing Hohlaub glacier make sure you stop at the stunning glaciers lakes. They are incredible and makes you feel like you are on another planet.

Then you hike through some rocks all marked, and cross Allalin glacier, the biggest glacier out of all.

Once you crossed it, there will be a little uphill where you can get a last glimpse of the glaciers before you start your descent down towards Mattmark lake.

From the lake you can catch the bus back to Sans Almagell.

The entire hike is 10 km long with 619 meters of elevation gain. It can ten 5 - 6 hours to complete.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL TRAIL. MY TOP RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU:
