The mural of Diego Maradona in the Quartieri Spagnoli of Naples is an iconic work of Italian street art. The homage to the Argentinian player celebrates the victory of Napoli’s second Scudetto, which was won by modest but dedicated efforts. It was painted in 1990 by twenty-three year old artist Mario Filardi. With his work, he paid a tribute to Maradona, to whom the people of Naples are forever indebted for his extraordinary contribution to two championship victories. Years later, Salvatore Iodice and Francisco Bosoletti completed works to restore the mural and to give it a vibrant look that stands as a symbol of joy and pride in the city. The mural has since become a tourist attraction, celebrating Maradona and his unique bond between him and the people of Naples.
