When you’re out in this part of the Highlands, Tungnaárfellsfoss is technically “roadside”—but it’s a little more of an adventure than that sounds.
This waterfall is a gem. It’s wide and beautiful, sitting in the Tungnaá river, and it feels completely untouched. Unlike the busier Lekafossar nearby, this spot is all about peace and quiet. It’s the kind of place where you can just take a deep breath and feel like you’ve got Iceland’s wilderness all to yourself. If you are in a hurry, you might simply skip that spot.
And yeah, you’ll need to cross the river on foot, which might get your boots a little wet—but honestly, it’s part of the fun. It’s so worth it for the stillness and the view at the end.
Parking
To get there, you’ll have to leave the car on road F208 and walk about 800 meters - but it is not so easy to find a good spot without blocking the road - be aware of that.
