What to order:

The tortilla de patatas (they make only a handful per service), the grilled txuleta (chuleta steak) to share, and the tomato salad. If you want a table, you’ll almost always need to order the steak — tortilla alone is usually standing-only.

Why it’s here:

Bar Néstor is one of the most talked-about bars in the Old Town because it does just a few things, exceptionally well. It’s a great example of San Sebastián’s no-nonsense food culture, where demand is high, portions are generous, and the rules are set by the kitchen, not the customer.

Tip:

Arrive 45–60 minutes before opening if you want a table. Staff often take names shortly before service, and tables are limited. Rules can change depending on the day, demand, and how busy they are — so be flexible and don’t argue the system. If you miss out, standing at the bar for a tortilla is still worth it, but food sells out fast. Expect quick service, shared plates, and a short visit rather than a long meal.
