Gili Asahan Eco Lodge has 8 rescue horses that are well cared for and not ridden. They go on daily beach walks for exercise, and this is offered as an activity to both guests and non-guests staying on the island for $30.

During the walk, you are accompanied by both the horse trainer and the caretaker, who explain everything about the horses and how to interact with them. You’ll walk with one of the oldest horses, Nala, the leader of the group—a lovely white horse. The horses often run into the water to swim on their own and are quite patient. Sometimes they would wait for us and even fall asleep in the water.

This activity is also offered to families with children, and they usually adjust it by having fewer horses around for better visibility.
