🗓️ Best time to visit: Jun–Sep | morning
⏱️ Recommended time: 1–2 hours
One of the most accessible glaciers in Alaska, Exit Glacier is a must-visit stop in Kenai Fjords National Park, just a short drive from Seward. This is one of the rare places where you can walk right up to a glacier and witness its scale—and its retreat—up close.
💡 Why visit:
easy access to a real glacier without needing a tour
powerful visual of climate change with marked glacier retreat points
great mix of short walks and more challenging hikes
💡 Trail options:
Glacier View Loop (~1 mile / 1.6 km, easy)
Edge of the Glacier Trail (~2 miles / 3.2 km, moderate)
Harding Icefield Trail (challenging, full-day hike)
⚠️ Good to know:
weather can shift quickly—expect rain, even in summer
stay on marked trails → glacier areas can be dangerous
parking can fill up during peak hours
🥾 Extra tip:
If you’re up for a challenge, hike part of the Harding Icefield Trail—the higher you go, the more unreal the views become over an endless sea of ice.
