Il Laghetto is one of those small hidden places in the Dolomites that you can easily miss if you don’t know it exists. Located near Santa Cristina in Val Gardena, this tiny lake offers a peaceful atmosphere, beautiful reflections, and incredible mountain scenery without the crowds of the more famous Dolomite lakes.

Lake coordinates:
46.5480873, 11.7119183

You can easily find it using Google Maps.

Getting There & Parking

The lake is extremely easy to access and requires only a short walk from the nearby parking area.

Park your car here

Important: pay close attention to parking restrictions and allowed times. Rules are controlled quite strictly in this area, so don’t leave your car longer than permitted.

If you prefer a safer option or travel with a camper, you can park lower in the village.

Why This Place Feels Special

Unlike famous lakes such as Lago di Braies or Sorapis, Il Laghetto is not about dramatic scale — it’s about peace and atmosphere.

What makes it beautiful:

  • perfect mountain reflections;

  • quiet surroundings;

  • easy access;

  • peaceful forest atmosphere;

  • beautiful views around Santa Cristina.

It’s a perfect quick stop for photographers or anyone looking for a calm place between bigger hikes.

When I visited Il Laghetto, it was right at the end of the ski season. The whole area was still covered in snow, so unfortunately I couldn’t see the famous mirror reflection in the water.

But even in these conditions, I immediately saw the potential of this place. I can only imagine how magical it looks during summer and especially autumn, when the landscape is full of colors and Monte Pana reflects perfectly in this tiny alpine lake.

If you visit Val Gardena during the warmer months, definitely add this little hidden spot to your itinerary — with calm weather, it can become one of those simple but unforgettable Dolomite moments.

Best Time for Photography

The lake is especially beautiful during:

  • sunrise;

  • sunset;

  • calm windless conditions.

When the water is completely still, the reflections become the main highlight of this place.

Because the lake is easy to reach, expect more people during the day and around sunset, especially in good weather.

Hiking Around the Area

The surroundings of Santa Cristina are perfect if you want to extend your visit with a longer walk or hike.

Circular hike passing the lake

Longer panoramic hike in the area

The area offers:

  • forest trails;

  • cycling routes;

  • panoramic mountain paths;

  • and beautiful viewpoints over Val Gardena.

Important Tips

  • Visit during calm weather for the best reflections

  • Sunrise gives the quietest atmosphere

  • Respect parking restrictions

  • Bring a camera — reflections are the main highlight

  • Perfect quick stop between bigger adventures in Val Gardena

Il Laghetto proves that sometimes the most memorable places are not the famous ones, but the small unexpected discoveries you find along the way.
