This is easily one of the most iconic photography spots at Passo Giau — and one of the easiest to access. Located directly behind Berghotel Passo Giau, the viewpoint offers an incredible perspective toward Ra Gusela and the surrounding Dolomite peaks.
One of my favorite details here is the staircase leading through the landscape. It creates a perfect leading line for photos and looks especially impressive from above with a drone.

Hiking Options
If you want something more adventurous, this is also a great starting point for hiking toward Cinque Torri — one of the most scenic and popular hikes in the area.

Best Time to Visit
Sunrise and sunset completely transform this area:
softer light;
fewer people;
dramatic shadows across the mountains;
and incredible photography conditions.
During summer afternoons, the area becomes much busier with hikers, photographers, and roadtrip traffic.
Important Tips
Bring a jacket even during summer mornings
Weather changes quickly at this altitude
The area around the stairs can become slippery after rain
Sunrise offers the calmest atmosphere by far
Even without hiking, the scenery around the pass is absolutely stunning
Whether you stop here for a quick photo or continue hiking deeper into the mountains, Passo Giau is one of those places in the Dolomites where almost every direction looks unreal.
