Lake Gunn Nature Walk is an easy, well-formed loop of roughly 30–45 minutes that takes you through beech forest onto boardwalks and gives classic mirror views of the lake and surrounding peaks, so bring a camera. You can park at the small layby off the Milford Road but spaces fill in peak season, so aim for early morning or late afternoon; there is no admission fee. Wear sturdy shoes and waterproof layers because Fiordland weather changes fast and sandflies can be bad on calm days, and carry insect repellent. Facilities are minimal, dogs are generally not permitted in the national park, and you should stick to the track to protect the fragile native vegetation.
