Short scenic walk to pools

You reach the Blue Pools from a small Department of Conservation car park off State Highway 6 between Wanaka and Haast; the well formed track with boardwalks and a swingbridge takes about 10 to 20 minutes return and finishes at viewing platforms over brilliant, icy glacial pools that are perfect for photos. The water is very cold and flows fast, so you should not swim, and the area can get busy in summer with limited parking, so aim for early or late in the day. The walk has steps and narrow sections, so it is not wheelchair accessible but is fine for most families and reasonably fit walkers.
