Waterfall

Fantail Falls is an easy roadside stop on the Haast Pass, perfect for a quick break on a long drive. The walk is short and flat, but if you want to get right up close to the waterfall, be prepared to step into the river and cross shallow water, depending on conditions, nothing intense, but good shoes help. Just 3 minutes before Fantail Falls when you’re heading west, you’ll see a small pull-off at a bridge, that’s Wilson Creek. Park there, walk down toward the creek, and you’ll find a narrow blue-water gorge that feels like a hidden bonus stop. Go only in low water, take it slow on slippery rocks, and expect to spend 10–15 minutes exploring. Both stops are quick, scenic, and low effort, ideal if you want maximum views without a long hike.
