Fjallavatn is a breathtaking hidden gem nestled among the rugged mountains of Vágar Island and also it is the second largest lake in the Faroe Islands. To reach this tranquil freshwater lake, start by heading to the village of Vatnsoyrar, located just a five-minute drive from the airport. Enter the area near the camping site and continue driving until the road ends. Park your car there, and prepare for a roughly one-hour hike to reach Fjallavatn.

As you walk, you’ll traverse scenic landscapes, and while the trail can be muddy at times, the journey is well worth it. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the serene, reflective waters of Fjallavatn, surrounded by dramatic peaks that create a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This peaceful haven is ideal for nature lovers and photographers alike—don’t forget your hiking boots and a camera to capture its unspoiled beauty!
