Kitee Zoo – Where Animals Feel Close and Kids Feel Joy

The Kitee Zoo was actually the only place we already knew about before visiting Kitee. We had been there a few years back and loved it — so of course, we returned!

The kids were beyond excited — they absolutely love animals. We grabbed a couple of strollers from the entrance for the little girls and started our animal adventure. The walking route through the park is about 2 km, which is just the right length for families with young children.

The kids were most excited to see lynxes and the bear, but unfortunately, both were on a well-deserved siesta and stayed hidden. No worries though — the moose, raccoon dogs, wild boars, and the ever-entertaining screaming peacocks stole the show! We had a lot of fun, enjoyed the walk, and made great memories discovering new animals.

If we could suggest one thing, it would be to freshen up the park’s appearance a little — just some small updates to make the surroundings feel more inviting. From the outside, the park looks like it has seen better days, and that’s a shame, because the animals are well cared for, and the place has a warm, family-friendly atmosphere.

Our kids actually said they liked Kitee Zoo more than Helsinki’s Korkeasaari — simply because, “Here the animals are much closer!” 🦌🦚🐗

It’s a relaxed, cozy zoo where both little ones and grown-ups can enjoy an easy day in nature with animals. A great stop for families passing through — or even a reason to visit Kitee in the first place!
