"Would you like me to heat the sauna for you this evening? What time?"

That’s how we were welcomed to Hotel Krepelin in the heart of Kristiinankaupunki.

As we pulled into the courtyard, I walked up the stairs to the main building with our little princess. We rang the bell, and one of the owners, Eero—who, together with his brother Harri, represents the fourth generation of hosts—greeted us warmly.
“Welcome! The downstairs apartment is all set for you. Would you like me to heat the sauna for this evening? What time suits you?”

Wait, what? How amazing is that?

Krepelin is a charming apartment hotel located in the old merchant's courtyard, with buildings dating from 1806 to 1870. While the history is rich, the comforts are thoroughly modern—each of the nine apartments includes a kitchen and bathroom. You can live like a local, surrounded by heritage. And we absolutely felt at home.

As soon as we settled in, the boys grabbed the yard bikes and rode off to explore Kristiinankaupunki on their own. They also found a big basket of balls and rackets, which were put to good use both in the yard and at the nearby sports field.

Our apartment had a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and two bedrooms. The teens slept out in our campervan parked in the yard, and the rest of us stayed inside.
And oh—the sauna. What a cozy experience. It was located at the end of the old storehouse building, with a long wooden bench in the dressing room. We lit candles, sweated it out, cooled down, and repeated. First the girls, then the boys. It was magical.

We also chatted with other guests in the courtyard. Everyone seemed to share the same warm feeling about the place. Later that night, while lounging on the sofa watching the Olympics, one of the boys said,
“It feels like we’re abroad.”
And honestly, it really did.

Thank you, Krepelin, for taking our Kristiinankaupunki adventure to the next level.

We only share locations, where we have been exploring and visiting as a family of 10, you get very special things in our website!
