It’s my favourite summer area in the Rockies.
Sunshine Village isn’t just a ski resort — it’s also the starting point for some of the most incredible backcountry hikes in the region.
Trails like Egypt Lake, Pharaoh Peaks, and even routes toward Mount Assiniboine all begin from here, taking you deep into alpine terrain, wildflower meadows, and some of the most scenic landscapes you’ll find in Banff.
You can either hike up or take the gondola to save elevation and start right in the alpine, which makes accessing these trails a lot easier.
In winter, Sunshine Village completely transforms into one of the best ski areas in the Canadian Rockies.
Sitting high on the Continental Divide, it’s known for some of the best and most consistent snow conditions in the region, with a long season that often runs from November into May.
With three mountains and over 3,300 acres of skiable terrain, it offers everything from wide beginner runs to advanced alpine terrain like the legendary Delirium Dive (for experienced skiers only, with avalanche gear required).
What makes Sunshine special year-round is the setting — you’re surrounded by big, open mountain views with a more remote, high-alpine feel compared to other resorts. Whether you’re here for hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter, it’s one of those places that really shows off what the Rockies are all about.
