This mini-plaza that is in reality just a larger than normal chunk of sidewalk at the juncture of Guido and Juncal streets is a actually a beautiful little oasis in Retiro. It may not be a proper green space, park, or plaza but it does feature a beautiful monument blanketed in green ivy. It's quiet here, and home to Josefina - a cafe and veritable instituion - the ideal spot for a coffee and people watching.

Want actual historical context? The plaza was officially inaugurated in 1980, named for Pedro Miguel Obligado - a poet and writer - born in Buenos Aires in 1892.

The statue you see has nothing to do with Obligado, it is a statue of the goddess of love and beauty, Venus Citerea. This statue is a replica of a roman statue from the second century AD.
