Taverna Spitiko located in Archanes, south of Heraklion offers top-notch traditional Cretan food. When I visited the town, I explored it in a slow-paced walk, wandering around the alleys, seeing the museums.

And then I got hungry so I asked the locals where should I go and they recommended me Spitiko. It's located in the central square and the menu offers a wide range of Cretan delicacies, such as lamb, mushrooms, horta wild greens and pork. Don't forget to try their tasty beignets and the "loukoumades" sweet fried dough for dessert. You don't even have to order it, they will bring to you as a treat with the bill.
