For a self-guided tour, pick up a city map from the tourist info desk at the Luzern train station.

If you are short on time, the must-see highlights are the Chapel Bridge and Spreuer Bridge, walk back through the old town towards the lake. If you have a little more time, the Musegg city wall is our favorite viewpoint in Lucerne.

Must skip? The Lion Monument is on every walking tour, but honestly, it's not super interesting and outside the main old town area.

Audio Guides

Lucerne has a free audio tour that you can download on your phone. It has suggested routes or you can plan your own. GPSmyCity has a few different self-guided tours with different themes.

Puzzle Trail

If you have kids, you might like the FoxTrail scavenger hunt where you solve riddles as you explore the city. I'd choose one that visits the Old Town.

See also my self-guided walking route for families that hits the highlights.
