This beautiful mountain trail starts at the top of the Ftan chairlift near Scuol. You join the long distance Via Engadina route, traversing the mountain westward, with views of many mountains across the main valley. Then it into a long narrow river valley, filled golden larches.

Near the end of that valley, you descend to the river and loop back on the other side of the river. The trail follow a narrow path high up a steep hillside, passing in and out of the forest.

The trail ends in the Ardez village, where you can catch a train back to your starting point.

Trail: moderate - 13.7 km one way - 4 hours - See trail map on Komoot

This trail can be extended by continuing to follow the Via Engadina trail signs to the next alpine village Guarda, where you can catch bus back to your starting point.

This trail is usually open from late June through late October, when the larch trees turn bright yellow as shown in my pics here.

How to get there

This is a one way hike, starting at the Ftan chairlift (see on map). Timetable for Ftan chairlift

You can ride a bus from Scuol to the Ftan, cumün stop. Then a short walk uphill to the chairlift. The trail ends in Ardez, where you can catch a train.

If you come by car, it's most time efficient to park at the Scuol train station and use public transport to reach the trail.
