This trail along Lake Lucerne has many highlights: two big waterfalls, lush forest, flower-filled meadows and mountain views. At the end of your one way hike, you have a relaxing ferry ride back to your starting point—a perfect way to end the day.

Thanks to its low elevation, this hike is an excellent choice for spring.

This hike is stage 7 of the long distance Waldstätterweg, that wraps around the north half of Lake Lucerne. This mirrors the Swiss Path that wraps around the south half of the lake.

How to get there

The trail starts in Beckenried. There is metered parking next to the Klewenalp cable car at Kirchweg, 6375 Beckenried. Bus stop: Beckenried, Boden, 50 mins from Lucerne.

In Beckenried, follow signs with the green 98-Waldstätterweg marker.

About the first hour is on a paved road along the lake shore. Then you reach the forest and waterfalls. After another hour, you exit the forest and walk on some country roads along alpine meadows.

This trail ends in Treib where you can catch a ferry back to Beckenried, Lucerne, or another stop that is convenient for you. The boat picks up about once an hour, less frequently in spring and fall. The journey to Beckenried is 35 mins.
