This easy bike ride goes through the Lauterbrunnen valley. Along the way, we suggest stops at the biggest waterfalls - Staubbach Falls, Trümmelbach Falls, Mürrenbach Falls - as well as the lesser known Sefinen Falls.

Bike rental: Imboden Bike Rental in Lauterbrunnen

When to go: usually possible April to early November

The ride is quite flat, mostly on a service road separate from the main traffic. Suitable for beginner cyclists and children.

Bike Route instructions

1. From Lauterbrunnen train station, walk thru village to Imboden shop to rent the bikes.

2. Short ride through Lauterbrunnen village to Staubbach falls – free to visit.

3. Continue riding on the valley path. After about 10 mins, detour to Trümmelbach falls. Spend 1 hour at the falls.

4. Return to valley path and continue riding towards Stechelberg, where you'll find the Mürrenbach falls and cable car to Mürren.

5. Ride to Sefinen falls - park bikes at bridge and short walk to falls viewpoint.

6. (Option) With E-bikes, you can ride further up the valley on a dirt road to Trachsellauenen restaurant for lunch, then back to Stechelberg. This adds about 1 hour and 320m elevation gain. See below for details.

7. Ride the same way back to Lauterbrunnen and return the bikes.

Option: Detour to to Trachsellauenen

For a longer ride, you can continue cycling past Stechelberg, joining a mountain road leading to the Trachsellauenen restaurant.

However, this section is steeper and more difficult, better with an E-bike and suitable for more experienced cyclists. The road is narrower here, so you need to watch carefully for oncoming cars, which are few.

On the plus side, it's very beautiful and you get to enjoy see a more remote part of the valley. And the cute mountain restaurant is a nice place to have refreshments before heading back.

Option: Start in Interlaken

If you want a longer ride, you can start in Interlaken and ride to Lauterbrunnen. This route is about 3 hours and is more difficult. See info.
