Basel Tourism provides a brochure with five suggested walking routes through the old town. Each tour visits spots related to an artist or scholar connected to Basel.

The shortest and easiest tour is Route 1 Erasmus, marked with red signs. It takes about one hour and visits the Rathaus (town hall), Basel Münster cathedral, Rhine river viewpoint, as some charming lanes filled with interesting architecture.

Where to start: all tours start the Marktplatz square. From Basel train station, ride Tram 8 or 11, an 8 min ride.

Where to park: The closest parking to Basel old town is at Kunstmuseum Basel - Luftgässlein 4, 4051 Basel. Or Elisabethen garage - Steinentorberg 5, 4051 Basel
