As you hike from the Ebenalp cable car to the Aescher cliff restaurant, you walk through the "Wildkirchli" cave (aka Wild Little Church).

It is home to an old hermit's hut and small chapel, where religious ceremonies have been held here as far back as 1671. Catholic mass is still held here on a couple holy days a year.

Prehistoric stone tools and remains of bears have been found in this cave, suggesting that hunters lived here during the Paleolithic period (45,000-30,000 B.C.).

Inside the hermit's hut, you'll find some info panels with historical info about this area.
