This hike is perfect for spring, with big mountain views and crocus fields blooming around mid to late April.
Trail: 7.9 km loop • 2h45 • 536m up & down
See trail map on SchweizMobil • Komoot
Location: Heligkreuz, Hasle in Entlebuch Region near Lucerne
The lower elevation means the snow typical melts here by mid April, but no guarantees. Even without the crocus, it would be a lovely hike. It's even a snowshoe trail in winter.
The trail starts in a tiny village called Heligkreuz. You start walking on a road to the forest. Then lots of steep switchbacks in the forest until you reach the ridge.
Here you leave the forest and do a short walk over to the Farnere peak, which has great mountain views. You can even see the Eiger and Jungfrau peaks on a clear day. There are some fields here that fill with crocus in mid April.
Then traverse the mountain towards First. You'll pass another big crocus field here.
You'll reach Bergrestaurant First after about 2h hiking. They have drinks, snacks and some hot food like sausage and fries - pretty basic. Cash or TWINT, no cards.
Then about 40 mins back down to your starting point, mostly on a gravely road.
SHORT VERSION
If you're not up for the full hike, there is a parking area closer to the crocus fields and mountain restaurant. See parking on map. From this parking, you could probably reach the crocus field in about 30 mins.
