The Mürren BLM mountain train is a fun and beautiful way to reach the alpine village Mürren in the Jungfrau Region. This is a great option for those who prefer to minimize walking but still want to enjoy spectacular views. (some pics here are from summer to give you more examples of the views)

From the Lauterbrunnen train station, follow signs to the Grütschalp cable car across the street. The cable car takes you up the mountain, with increasing amazing views of the Lauterbrunnen valley.

Then transfer the Mürren BLM train, which traverses the mountain while you enjoy panorama views of the surrounding peaks. The windows open so you can get a better picture, but be nice to your fellow passengers and don't too much cold in.

In Mürren, you can wander around this charming village, admiring the traditional chalets and taking in more views. For coffee, we like InSport Coffee Bar. For lunch, our friends suggest Restaurant Edelweiss, which has great views out its big windows and an outdoor terrace for sunny days. Stägerstübli is a local's favorite with regional dishes.

You can go back the way you came. Or do a loop by riding the cable car down to Stechelberg, then a bus back to Lauterbrunnen. We prefer the loop because you get to see something different on the way back.

TICKETS

This journey is quite inexpensive, about CHF 25-30 round trip depending on which way you go back.

This journey is free with the Swiss Travel Pass, GA, and Saver Day Pass. Discounted with other Swiss travel cards.

You don't need to buy tickets in advance, they don't sell out. You can buy tickets at the ticket office or on the SBB Mobile app.

TIPS

In winter, this is part of the Schilthorn ski area, so you may be waiting in line with skiers, particularly in the mornings. Perhaps better a bit later in the day once most skiers are already on the mountain.

If you need to store luggage, the Lauterbrunnen train station and the Mürren BLM train station both have luggage lockers.
