At Mines de Sel de Bex, you can explore salt mines that have been in operation since the 15th century.
You can only enter the mines on a guided tour, which is 2 hours. Tours are in French or German only. But they offer written and audio commentaries in English and other languages via the SmartGuide mobile app. Tour start about every 45 mins thru the day.
You start with a short film about salt mining, then ride a little train into the mine and explore about 500m of tunnels on foot. The caves are 18C (64F), so best to bring a light jacket. Recommended from age 4, but no age restriction. No strollers or wheelchairs in the mines.
They also have a museum showcasing the history of salt mining.

How to get there
By car: 30 mins drive from Montreux, parking on-site
By public transport: The bus only runs to the mines on weekends and public holidays. Train to Bex, then bus 152 to Mines de Sel stop. Travel time from Montreux 35 mins
Otherwise, you have to ride to Les Dévens stop, then 25min walk up.

You can book tickets in advance on their website.
You get a discount with the hotel guest cards Carte Bienvenue and Carte Fidélité. In this case, they suggest calling to reserve a spot and buying the tickets on-site so you can apply the discount.
