Windegghütte SAC is a small mountain hut near the Trift glacier and suspension bridge. It is located at 1886 meters, accessible by cable car and hike. We typically visit this hut for lunch after visiting the glacier and bridge.
Open: early June through mid October • book overnight here

How to reach the hut
There are two trails to the hut, which branch off from the main trail between the cable car and bridge.
We suggest the safer trail, called the "Familienweg," which has similar conditions to the main trail. This trail forks left about 10 mins after leaving the bridge. From there, it takes about 30 mins on steep switchbachs to reach the hut.
After visiting the hut, you can take a different trail down to the main trail, on your way to the cable car, about 1 hour. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to catch the cable car at your assigned time.
The more difficult trail, called the "Ketteliweg," starts directly from the bridge to the hut, climbing up and over a steep rock faces. Although it is a "red/white" trail, it is exposed and has some scrambling and metal rungs, more like an alpine "blue/white" trail.
Hut Cafe
During the day, the hut has a cafe serving typical Swiss mountain food, like soup, cold platters of cheese and preserved meat, sausage, cakes, etc.
When we were there, we could pay with card or cash. But best to bring cash just in case. They have outdoor seating with a great view and indoor tables if it gets cold.
Overnight at hut
They have 36 sleeping spaces, which you can book online. You can cancel and get a refund 2 days in advance.
Your fee includes dinner and breakfast. The Trift cable car ticket is not included in the fee. You must book that separately.
